ASCO completed this $22.8M upgrade to the Leslie Street Sewage Pumping Station in Markham, increasing its capacity from 3,800 L/s to 7,500 L/s as part of a critical expansion of the York-Durham sewage network.

The project included major mechanical, electrical, process, and energy system upgrades, along with full building improvements targeting LEED certification.

Key components included:

• Installation of new dry pit centrifugal pumps with 5 kV motors and adjustable speed drives,
• Refurbishment of existing pumps with new soft starters,
• Replacement of medium voltage switchgear and SCADA systems,
• Installation of three 2000 kW standby generators with a large underground fuel system.

Maintaining continuous plant operation was critical. Temporary power systems and phased construction sequencing ensured uninterrupted service, requiring extensive coordination among all stakeholders.
