ASCO Construction Ltd. was selected by the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation to execute the community’s Water Supply System project. This project is funded by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and the First Nation, with design and administration provided by First Nations Engineering Services Ltd.

The project involves executing a comprehensive water supply system, including a new 900 m² post-disaster facility designed to provide a reliable long-term water supply. The distribution network includes 9 km of new watermain and over 260 residential service connections. The treatment facility is designed for a flow rate of 9.5 L/s, with a daily production capacity of 820.8 m³/day and utilizes a Multi-Barrier Filtration using Slow Sand filter, Pre-treated Ozonation, Granular activated Carbon, UV Disinfection, and Chlorination system. Additional works include a 1700 m² asphalt driveway, a backup diesel generator

The Challenges:

a) The project required an aggressive delivery schedule, necessitating the rapid deployment of a reliable water supply system to immediately replace contaminated residential wells and ensure the community’s access to safe, clean drinking water.

b) The scope required extensive and precise coordination of multiple barrier filtration systems, all of which had to be commissioned through a rigorous testing and startup process to ensure full operational compliance.

c) The execution required seamless coordination among several complex and interdependent disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and civil works, ensuring that trade sequencing was properly aligned with project requirements and construction activities.

d) The team faced significant site-specific technical challenges that demanded real time engineering solutions and adaptability to implement critical modifications and adjustments without compromising project quality, safety, or schedule objectives.
