ASCO delivered the $29.6M upgrade to the Hawkesbury Wastewater Treatment Plant, with construction running from 2011 through February 2014, including winter conditions.

The project involved a comprehensive upgrade and expansion of the existing facility, including:

• A new Sludge Handling and Dewatering Building with an ATAD sludge treatment system,
• A new Headworks Building,
• A new UV Effluent Pump Building,
• Conversion of existing aerobic digesters into primary clarifiers,
• Conversion of aeration tanks to an IFAS system,
• Temporary bypass pumping and groundwater control in difficult soil conditions.

Additional work included mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural scopes, as well as site servicing and infrastructure upgrades. ASCO also completed extensions and relocations of sewers and watermains, and demolished several existing structures after commissioning the new facilities.

All work was completed while the plant remained fully operational, requiring detailed sequencing, coordination, and commissioning to ensure uninterrupted service.
